Q: How can I identify version/build of SSAS 2005/2008 on my server?

A: If your SSAS services is running, then start SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and connect to Analysis services instance. In the object tree you will see your server name and information about that server:

<mashine-name>(Microsoft Analysis Server 10.0.1787.0 - <mashine-name>\<User-name>)

In my sample above Microsoft Analysis Server has build 10.0.1787.

If you SSAS service is not running, then go to the folder where binaries SSAS files are located (by default C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSAS10.MSSQLSERVER\OLAP\bin) and check version of the file msmdsrv.exe. This version represent SSAS build.
